Light Metal Roof Framing

The owner wanted to replace the flat roof with a metal roof that has a ½ inch per foot slope. Buchanan Engineering, Civil and Structural PLLC was hired to prepare design documents. Buchanan Engineering designed a new light metal structural frame and new metal roof. We also verified the strength of the supporting steel joist & wood joist, steel beams, and columns. The steel beam in the middle section, build in the 70s, would be over stressed with the new roofing system and live load required by current code. A stiffer was designed for the beams for the additional strength needed. Additional bracing was designed to support the structure during construction and adverse weather conditions. The construction drawing were approved for permitting the first time submitted.
